Things to do in the Summer

Tips for day trips to the Salzkammergut

We will be happy to give you great tips for unforgettable holidays in Salzburg and the Salzkammergut region. Excursions in the beautiful great outdoors in summer are especially worthwhile. When you get hungry, treat yourself to something tasty at the Restaurant Gasthof Am Riedl – both hotel guests and holidaymakers just stopping by are warmly welcome!

Nature is best explored on hikes, cycling tours and walks in summer, when the sun shines in the bright blue sky and the air is filled with the buzzing of bees and sweet fresh air. There are plenty of wonderful things to do, see and experience on your holiday in the Salzkammergut!

5fingers Platforms: The incredible 5fingers viewing platforms are just a 15-minute walk from the mountain station of the Dachsteiner Krippenstein cable car. These platforms offer amazing views of the Salzkammergut.
Open: May to October (times depend on the Krippenstein cable car)

Open-air Museum in Grossgmain: Travel back in time through six centuries. See original structures from an era gone by, learn more about crafts from the past and discover how people once lived.
Open: March to October, Tuesday to Sunday – 9:00 am to 6:00 pm; October and November, Tuesday to Sunday – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Cruise on a Salzkammergut lake: Glide over the waves on the Wolfgangsee, Fuschlsee or Mondsee lakes by boat and enjoy the beautiful panoramic views.
Open: year-round, according to timetables

SchafbergBahn: In operation since 1893, Austria's steepest cog railway starts in St Wolfgang and takes you up the Schafberg. Let the historic train chauffeur you through the picturesque landscape while you enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains.
Open: April to October, please see timetable

Swimming at the lake: Soak up the sun, cool down in the refreshing water, hop in a paddle boat or treat yourself to some innertubing! The Wolfgangsee, Fuschlsee and Mondsee lakes are not far from the Hotel Gasthof Am Riedl.
Open: lidos – depending on weather

Hellbrunn Trick Fountains & Salzburg Zoo: Combine both sights in one excursion – first visit local and exotic animals at the zoo and then cool off at the Trick Fountains – or you can do it the other way round, of course!
Open: Zoo – open year-round; Trick Fountains – March to November

Gut Aiderbichl: Gut Aiderbichl is an animal sanctuary and a place where people and animals can meet. The animals here love it when visitors shower them with attention and some don't even mind being petted!
Open: daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
